INFOS AND INTERESTING FACTS

The Violet odorata plant has been used in traditional herbal medicine for centuries, for its overall soothing properties on skin, muscles, or joints and calming benefits on nervous tensions. Fresh or dried violet leaves and flowers were often macerated in tinctures and added to products like creams, lotions, and balms or made into infusions, sirups and wines to soothe inflammations, for various respiratory, congestion, coughs, and sore throat applications. Infusions and decoction where uses to “calm the nerves” and promote sleep.

Our violet absolute comes from the leaves of the sweet violet plant. Its aroma has nothing to do with the sweet powdery violet fresh flowers fragrance one may be accustomed to find in violet flavoured sweets, sugar, and other artificially sweet violet scented products.

Our natural Violet leaf absolute is a unique, wonderful fresh, very green, cool almost watery, cucumber-peel like aromatic absolute, with a light touch of honeyed floral. It is a discreet but long holding and diffusing scent.

Violet leaf absolute is one of the rare natural green notes available to natural perfumers. Perfume creators use a touch of violet leaf to brighten and boost-up a blend and bring about impressions of spring dew or fresh forest floor. Violet leaf is one of the absolutes that help balance, support, and smooth different floral and woody nuances in a composition and blends easily with other essential oils and absolutes. Violet leaf absolute is present as a fragrant ingredient in upmarket natural skin and body care products.

Apart from its uses in the creation of perfumes and in cosmetics, Violet leaf absolute is used in mind calming, comforting, stress/trauma related blends for massages and in mood-lifting diffusing synergies.

To our knowledge at this time, a 100% pure and natural Violet flower absolute has not been produced/commercialized in many decades.

INSTRUCTIONS OF USE

Like all absolutes Violet leaf absolute is used sparingly and at very low concentrations.

The aroma in your bottle is very concentrated and you may not assess its true complexity by just getting a “whiff” from the bottle, on reception. We recommend smelling 1 drop of your absolute on a piece of paper. Come back to smell it from time to time during the follow hours and days, to get an idea of how the aroma evolves and diffuses, its strength and hold, etc…

For skin contact applications, always dilute in an appropriate carrier.

Less than 1% in your final preparations is enough to produce a noticeable aroma (1% is 2 drops per 10 ml/ 2 teaspoons of base of your choice; or 10 drops per 50ml carrier)

For ease of use and dosage, but also to reveal the true nature of the aroma, you may choose to create a “concentrate” (See below Perfume), rather than using the pure absolute neat and directly, in your creations. That is dilute a few drops of this pure absolute when you receive it, in a perfumer’s base or in carrier oil (according to your end use or preferences).

You then add a few drops of your concentrate, at the safe dosage mentioned below for the applications you have in mind.

Note that natural and pure absolutes do not dissolve in water or water-based products.

For Perfumes

In perfumery, Violet absolute is used of course for its very unique green aroma. This absolute is also considered a very good “Nuanceur”, meaning that it has the capacity to bridge smoothly and blend seamlessly the different tonality in an accord, and also to enhance to the dominant aromas in floral, citrus, or herbal accords.

This is a pure, very concentrated, undiluted absolute. Only a very few drops (or low concentrations) are needed to achieve the most beautiful results.

To create a concentrate:

IFRA recommendation is: 2% dilution MAX in the fragrance concentrate = Dilution in a perfumer’s base or a carrier oil (Jojoba, Fractionated Coconut Oil), depending on your preferences and end uses.

That is up to 4 drops of absolute per 10ml perfumer’s base/ neutral carrier oil.  You can start with lower concentrations and adjust to your liking -do not exceed the recommended concentrations-to express all the layers and subtilities of this absolute.

In a clean, dark glass bottle add the number of drops to your preferred base, close, shake and label. Let infuse and keep your vial in a dark, cool place until needed. Use your pre-dilution, a few drops at a time, as it will still be very concentrated and intense.

For Other skin applications

  • Massages & body care
  • For Body uses (oils, creams…) 1 to 2 drops MAX of pre-diluted absolute per 10 ml carrier oil (0.5 to 1 % MAX concentration)
  • For soothing, purifying, and firming face care and to add a fresh floral note to your creams, face serums, masks:  use 1 to 2 drops MAX of pre-diluted absolute per 10 ml carrier or base (0.5 to 1 % concentration)
  • Hair care (rinsing) use 2 to 6 drops MAX of pre-diluted absolute per 10 ml carrier or base essential oil for 10 ml carrier or base (1 to 2 % concentration)

  • Diffusion
  • In Ultrasonic Diffusers synergies and blends, use 10 min 3 times a day.
