Before Using Essential Oils

If you are using an essential oil for the first time, always perform a skin tolerance test (Skin Patch Test).

For more specific precautions, always refer to the detailed technical data sheet provided with each essential oil.

Fragile Populations & Medical Conditions

General Restrictions

  • Infants under 3 months: Never use essential oils in any form.
  • Skin Application: Never use undiluted oils topically on infants or vulnerable skin.

Fragile Individuals

  • Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women: Without prior medical approval, no essential oils should be used until the start of the 4th month of pregnancy. Always consult a doctor or pharmacist.
  • Children under 7 years: Do not use topically on children under 3 years unless under strict medical advice. For children aged 3 to 7, use on skin exclusively under medical supervision.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

  • Epilepsy & Liver Disease: Exercise extreme caution and seek medical guidance prior to use.
  • Skin Allergies / Ultra-Sensitive Skin: Perform a patch test. An intolerance or cutaneous reaction will usually appear within 10 minutes—if so, do not use the oil topically.
  • Respiratory Allergies & Asthma: Never directly inhale essential oils or diffuse them in aerosol form.
  • Hormone-Dependent Conditions: Certain oils demonstrate hormone-like properties; obtain medical clearance before use.
  • Chronic Medications: Active ingredients may interact with medications. Consult your physician or pharmacist before topical or aromatherapeutic use.

During Use

  • Application Limits: Essential oils are intended for external/topical use (diluted), ultrasonic diffusion, or inhalation (steam/tissues).
  • Never Ingest: Swallowing essential oils can severely burn mucous membrane tissues and damage the digestive tract.
  • Carrier Dilution Required: Always dilute in a carrier oil, cream base, or dispersing agent before skin contact. In bath water, pre-disperse in Epsom salt, liquid soap, or vegetable oil (oils do not dissolve in water alone).
  • Avoid Mucous Membranes: Never apply in the eyes, inner ears, nose, or sensitive regions.
  • Dosage & Frequency: Less is more. Essential oils are active at low doses; do not exceed stated maximum doses.
  • Avoid Prolonged Use: Extended daily use can cause sensitization or toxicity. Rotate or limit use of: Cinnamon, Clove, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Nutmeg, Peppermint, Pine, Rosemary Verbenone, Thyme, Wintergreen, and Ylang-Ylang.
  • Photosensitivity: Citrus oils (Lemon, Orange, Grapefruit) and St. John’s Wort contain furocoumarins. Do not expose skin to direct sunlight/UV for 6 hours after application.
  • Flammability & Heat: Never burn or expose pure oils to open flames.
  • Diffusion Guidelines: Diffuse for 10–15 minutes, maximum 3 times per day in a well-ventilated space. Never diffuse around babies under 3 months.
  • No Injections: Intramuscular or intravenous injections are strictly prohibited.

After Using Essential Oils

  • Wash Hands: Thoroughly wash hands with soap after application or massage to prevent rubbing residual oils into your eyes.
  • Tight Sealing & Child Safety: Keep bottles tightly sealed, stored high and out of children’s sight and reach. Never remove dropper caps.
  • Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, dry place protected from light.
  • Original Packaging: Keep oils in their original, clearly labeled amber glass bottles to prevent degradation.

🚨 What To Do If an Accident Occurs

In the Eyes:

1. Do NOT panic.
2. Rinse continuously under running tap water for 2 minutes.
3. Apply a cotton pad soaked in carrier oil (olive, sweet almond, or vegetable oil) over the eye for 10 minutes to dilute and lift the oil.

Accidental Contact with Mucous Membranes:

Rinse with running tap water, then apply a pad soaked in carrier oil. If irritation or pain persists after 1 hour, seek immediate medical care.

Accidentally Swallowed:

Do NOT induce vomiting. Do NOT drink plain water or milk. Rinse mouth with water, swallow 1–2 tablespoons of edible vegetable oil (olive/sunflower) or activated charcoal, and contact a poison center immediately.

Skin Reaction or Allergy:

Discontinue use immediately. Apply a soothing marigold (Calendula) oil or gentle carrier oil 3–4 times daily for 2–3 days.
