Documentation Disclosure: GC/MS and IFRA Standards
As an online retail platform, we typically do not provide additional support documentation such as GC/MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) and IFRA (International Fragrance Association) standards, which we receive from our suppliers.
Understanding GC/MS Reports
In general, the COAs supplied to us by our essential oil suppliers do not usually include a full GC/MS analysis report.
GC/MS analyses are carried out in modern laboratories to study the molecular composition and concentration of ingredients. These analysis reports serve as a reference for various industries (e.g., pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food) to formulate products in accordance with international health and safety regulations.
In aromatherapy, GCMS reports help assess the conformity and concentration of molecules naturally present in essential oils. This molecular specificity, or chemotype, can help trained professionals (e.g., pharmacists, aromatherapists, flavor and fragrance chemists) define and recommend appropriate applications, safety dosages, and usage restrictions.
Many producers do not have in-house laboratories and rely on independent third-party labs for these analyses. These analyses can be costly, and the results are often proprietary and limited to the specific batch samples. While some companies may share these results to assist professional customers with regulations or for research, this is not always the case.
