INFOS AND INTERESTING FACTS
This is the essential oil that is referred to as “Bergamot oil”. (See more info)
Unrectified Bergamot essential oil is a gem in all diffusion blends to uplift moods and create a reassuring, warm “joie-de-vivre” atmosphere. With its summery, solar, and citrus fruits presence, Bergamot is one of the classic essential oils in synergies to help relax and fall asleep quickly.
This essential oil is loved for its rich refreshing top notes, to create diffusing blends and home mist that imitate classic Eau de Colognes or Italian “Aqua”. Bergamot essential oil adds a tingly, zesty touch to balance heavier or very sweet aromas.
Unrectified Bergamot Essential oil retains the full spectrum of the natural compounds present in the fruit’s peels at the time of distillation, including furanocoumarins in traces (but still biologically active).
This results in a more aromatically complex, richer, and sharper Bergamot essential oil, that must be highly diluted before even considering any skin applications or usage.

MORE INFORMATION
Difference between bergamot oil FCF (Furanocoumarin-free) and unrectified bergamot oil
Bergamot Oil is the essential oil obtained by expressing the peel of the fruit of the Bergamot tree.
Like most Citrus Peel oils, Bergamot essential oil naturally contains Furanocoumarins, photosensitizing constituents that get activated by UV light presents during the day (Sunlight). Their topical applications can make skins more sensitive to sunlight.
(Irritation, redness, burns, sometime blistering or skin discoloration).
IF APPLIED TO THE SKIN, at certain concentrations, all Oils containing
Furanocoumarins can cause irritations and burning, IF THE SKIN IS ALSO exposed to ULTRAVIOLET LIGHTS BEFORE the oil is completely absorbed.
To reduce the phototoxicity (sensitivity to sunlight), these essential oils may undergo a process to remove furanocoumarins (fractionated distillation), primarily bergapten.
This process makes the oil much safer for topical applications.
• Rectified Bergamot oil, also called BERGAMOT OIL FCF is Furanocoumarins Free (Bergapten removed). This version has undergone the process to remove the furanocoumarins fraction, making it safer for topical use. Bergamot oil FCF can be used during the day, as it IS NOT PHOTOTOXIC. (see page for more details)
• Unrectified bergamot oil, also referred to simply as BERGAMOT OIL, contains the full spectrum of natural compounds from the bergamot fruit, including the traces of furanocoumarins.
Bergamot unrectified oil should not be used at more than 0.4% dilution on the skin. If it is, often under professional or doctors’ supervisions and for a limited time, the person should not expose the skin to daylight (Sun, UV…) for 12-18 hours after application (Safe laps of time to allow for complete absorption of the oil, assuming the person did not rinse or wash).
This general warning is valid for all “leave-on” skin applications of unrectified citrus peel oils (massage & body oils, lotions, creams, balms, and perfumes).
To our knowledge, there is no documented/ reported risk from “rinse-off” products, such as soaps, shampoos, bubble baths and for all aerial / atmospheric diffusions (Home sprays, diffusers, etc...) at the dosage indicated.
Always dilute an essential oil and perform a skin patch test before applying on the skin, especially if your skin is sensitive or reactive (the best in these cases, is to dilute the essential oil even more- use minimal dosages or less- or to avoid the sensitizing essential oils all together).
