HOW TO USE

Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic therapy that involves gently pouring a continuous stream of warm, medicated oil onto the forehead. To use a tridoshic Shirodhara blend oil for this therapy, follow the steps below. However, it is essential to note that Shirodhara is best performed by a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner or therapist. If you are not experienced in this technique, it is recommended to seek professional guidance.

Preparation:

  • Warm the tridoshic Shirodhara oil to a comfortable temperature, typically around 100-110°F (37-43°C).
  • Ensure that the room where the therapy will be conducted is clean, quiet, and free from distractions.
  • Prepare a comfortable massage table or bed for the person receiving the therapy to lie down on, with a soft headrest or pillow for support.

Positioning:

  • The person receiving the therapy should lie down on their back with their head comfortably resting on the headrest or pillow.
  • Place a towel or protective sheet around the person's head and shoulders to catch any excess oil.

Shirodhara technique:

  • Slowly pour the warmed tridoshic Shirodhara oil onto the person's forehead, focusing on the area known as the "Ajna Chakra" or "third eye," located between the eyebrows.
  • Use a specially designed Shirodhara pot, which has a small hole at the bottom to control the flow of the oil. Alternatively, you can use a small ladle or cup to pour the oil.
  • Make sure the stream of oil is continuous and consistent, gently moving the oil flow back and forth across the forehead.
  • The person receiving the therapy should keep their eyes closed and focus on their breath, allowing the oil to flow over the forehead and into the hair.

Duration:

  • A typical Shirodhara session lasts for 30-45 minutes, depending on the individual's needs and the practitioner's recommendations.
  • Keep the oil warm throughout the session by adding more warmed oil as necessary.

Finishing the session:

  • After the session is complete, gently remove any excess oil from the person's forehead and hair using a clean towel or cloth.
  • Encourage the person to rest for a few minutes before sitting up, as they may feel relaxed and slightly disoriented.
  • It is recommended to keep the oil in the hair for a few hours or even overnight to maximize the benefits. The person can wash their hair with a mild shampoo after the recommended duration.
