Description

Rediscover the ancient "Herb of Clarity." Our Organic Calamus Root Oil (Acorus calamus) is distilled from the rhizomes of the Sweet Flag plant.

Known in Ayurveda as Vacha (meaning "speech"), it has been revered for thousands of years by sages and herbalists to sharpen the mind and detoxify the body.

The Aroma: Despite growing in swamps, it has a surprisingly warm, spicy, and woody-sweet aroma that is grounding and comforting.

Key Benefits & Uses:

The "Brain Tonic" (Focus & Clarity): This is its most celebrated traditional use. Calamus is a powerful nervine stimulant. It is traditionally used to clear "mental fog," sharpen focus, improve memory, and stimulate the mind during times of fatigue or exhaustion.

Potent Digestive Aid: It is one of the most effective carminatives in herbalism. A gentle abdominal massage (heavily diluted) is traditionally used to warm the stomach, stimulate appetite, and relieve gas, bloating, indigestion, and colics.

Respiratory Support: Its spicy, warming nature makes it a useful expectorant for clearing "cold" conditions, such as congestion and coughs.

Nervous System Balancer: Uniquely, it is both stimulating and grounding. It helps to steady the nerves during times of shock or nervous tension.

This oil contains beta-asarone.

Toxic in high doses. Use only in very low dilutions (max 0.5%).
