SHORT DESCRIPTION - INTERESTING FACTS:

Our Batana kernel oil is extracted from the fruit kernel of the American palm oil tree (Elaeis oleifera), native to Central and South America.

Rich in fatty acids combined with anti-inflammatory properties, Batana oil is an excellent choice for both skin and hair with dry to very dry tendencies. While Batana Kernel oil has gain quite a reputation for being one of the preferred oils to nourish and strengthen dry and unruly, frizzy, curly and coily hair types, Batana oil is also beneficial to irritated, fragilized or sensitive skins.

Sourced from sustainable agroforestry cooperatives in Honduras' La Moskitia forest, our Batana oil is cold pressed to preserve its nutrients and active compounds and dry fractionated (click on more info tab for details). Our fractionated Batana kernel oil remains liquid (Olein) at room temperature, and has a mild, neutral, slightly nutty pleasant aroma. Unlike its raw counterpart, characterized by a heavier, paste-like consistency and a strong aroma, fractionated Batana oil has a lightweight feel on the skin and absorbs fast without leaving a greasy residue.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Being liquid doesn't mean Fractionated Batana Oil is diluted or, even worse, fake. The fractionation process is a natural method that modifies the oil's physical properties while maintaining many of its beneficial qualities (SEE MORE INFO)
  • Fractionated Batana oil is considered non-comedogenic.

MORE INFO

BATANA OIL VS OJON OIL:  Batana oil and Ojon (aka Caiaue/Dende Bravo) oil both come from the American palm tree (Elaeis oleifera), but they are extracted from different parts of the Fruit/Nut:

Batana oil (INCI NAME: Elaeis oleifera kernel oil) is extracted from the kernel of the fruit/nut, while

Ojon oil (INCI NAME: Elaeis oleifera (Caiaue) oil) is extracted from the pulp of the fruit/nut. This difference in source can lead to variations in their composition and properties.

BATANA OIL EXTRACTION PPROCESS:

  1. Harvesting the mature nuts,
  2. The cold-pressed method for extracting our Batana oil from the American oil palm (Elaeis oleifera) in la Moskitia forest agroforestry cooperative in Honduras, is a mechanical process that preserves the oil's beneficial properties by avoiding high temperatures*
  3. Fractionated Batana oil undergoes further processing to separate the liquid unsaturated fatty acids from heavier components, resulting in a lighter oil that remains liquid at room temperature

*This method is distinct from the traditional extraction process, used by indigenous communities for their own uses, that involves boiling and pounding the nuts to remove the outer shell, extracting and washing the kernels, sun-drying, and then cooking them over high fire to extract the oil.

* ABOUT DRY FRACTIONATION: Dry fractionation is the most widely used environmentally friendly method for vegetable oil fractionation AND complies with COSMOS Natural standards.

  1. After cold pressing the Batana kernels, a brown pasty oil is obtained, that is solid at room temperature (Raw Batana oil).
  2. The oil/paste is slowly heated to liquify it up to a certain point;
  3. Controlled cooling of the oil;
  4. Partial crystallization (a phase where the solid component naturally separates from the liquid component of the oil);
  5. Mechanical filtration to separate solid (stearin) and liquid (olein) fractions.

The fractionated Batana oil that eOil offers is the olein fraction, the lightweight, liquid oil that remains fluid at room temperature, making it more convenient to use compared to the solid form of unrefined Batana Oil.

CAUTION

Keep out of reach of children and pets.

As a general rule, always perform a skin patch test before using your essential oils for the first time.
