Description

Wintergreen essential oil, steam distilled from the leaves of Gaultheria procumbens, delivers a crisp, sweet-minty, woody aroma and is famous for its potent natural content of methyl salicylate.

A top choice for muscle and joint relief, it’s widely used in sports massage, skincare, and classic muscle balms.

Key Benefits & High-Intent Features

  • Muscle & Joint Support: Powerfully analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic—excellent for massage after exertion, sports, or for those with rheumatism, sore muscles, and joint pain.

  • Pain Relief & Cooling Sensation: Produces a cooling effect and helps numb local pain and discomfort; a favorite in sports rubs and topical relief formulas.

  • Skincare Astringent: Natural astringent properties make it suitable—when very well diluted—for oily/acne-prone skin or to soothe irritated, red, or inflamed areas. Often used in spot care, aftershave, or skin-cleaning formulas.

  • Stimulates Circulation: Encourages local blood flow when massaged into the skin—can be especially useful for muscle warm-ups and recovery.

  • Aromatherapy: Its minty aroma is invigorating, helps clear nasal congestion, stimulates mental focus, and is traditionally used to combat mental fatigue.

How to Use Wintergreen Essential Oil

Topical (Always Dilute! – use with caution):

  • Massage & Body Care: Use 1–6 drops in 10ml carrier oil for localized massage (not for large or broken skin areas). Always patch test first.

  • Skincare: 1 drop in 10ml carrier for targeted blemish solutions or very diluted in aftershaves. Not for daily or all-over use.

  • Scalp Care: Occasionally used for itchy or flaky scalp (well diluted in shampoo); helps strengthen strands and promote healthy scalp conditions.

  • Baths & Compresses: Add 1–2 drops (well diluted in Epsom salts or Bath soap) to a bath for soothing muscle recovery.

Aromatherapy:

  • Diffuse sparingly for mental stimulation, as a refreshing “wake-up,” or to help clear congestion (not suitable for extended use or for sensitive individuals).

Safety & Precautions:

  • Contains 98–99% methyl salicylate (aspirin-like). Strictly avoid if allergic to aspirin/salicylates, on anticoagulant medication, or before/after surgery.

  • Strictly for adult external use only—never use for children or in pregnancy.

  • Do not use if you are prone to ulcers, eczema, asthma, hernia, or bleeding disorders.

  • Never apply undiluted—use with care, in moderation, and only for short periods136.

  • Not for use before/after surgery or on broken skin; avoid mucous membranes.
