MORE INFORMATION
Hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa) has a long cultural and spiritual importance in Japan.
The Hinoki wood that is used sparingly and occasionally for construction (including restauration, conservation of traditional Japanese temples and historical homes) and beautiful objects manufacturing (design, decorative, furniture, or tools), comes from selectively harvested trees, in managed Agroforestry operations (Kiso district), under the direction of the Japanese Forestry Agency.
Our Hinoki wood essential oil is a by-product, using only the precious aromatic wood chips, leftovers from the Japanese timber industry, for distillation.
Note that 3 different essential oils of Chamaecyparis obtusa (Hinoki) are distilled from the precious tree: the Hinoki wood oil from wood chips and shavings (this page product), is the most commonly Hinoki essential oil used in aromatherapy.
Hinoki leave oil (needles and branches) and Hinoki roots oil (not common).
